The nerdy-coolest book club / geek session in town is back! We invite participants to step into the world of Shakespeare’s texts, getting a behind-the-scenes look at Kentucky Shakespeare’s upcoming season.

But digging into the plays and treating them like the playscripts they are can be a lot of grown-up fun once you unlock some of the tricky bits in a casual, snack’n’chat, no-test-on-the-reading setting. So resident Kentucky Shakespeare actor/dramaturg (pronounced: professional nerd) Gregory Maupin will lead a group through three sessions that will help you get the most out of reading Shakespeare on your own, before a show, or with a group of other weirdos who enjoy this kind of thing, too*.

This February, in the dark yuck of winter, we’ll be looking at the dark yuck of the murderous ambition-tainted soul that is MACBETH. Lord & Lady M. (don’t say it out loud! We’re already pushing our luck!) may be doers of terrible things, and may also be the only supportive marriage in Shakespeare (for Acts I-III, anyway). While there’s plenty of contemporary relevance — and there always is — we’ll be delving into conversations about...whatever aspect of the story interests YOU. That’s part of the fun of these sessions, we’re told. And it all culminates in a group outing to see Kentucky Shakespeare’s spring parks tour of MACB-you-know-what and if tradition holds, a drink/discussion after at a chat-friendly spot.

*This is primarily a series aimed at normal, decent people, but actors are not unwelcome.

Here’s what some past participants in past sessions had to say:

“Greg knows WAY too much to fit into 3 or 4 sessions, but…I am jazzed about further DIY exploration.”

“Greg’s workshop is great for Shakespeare nerds and newbies alike. I’m more of a newbie and ended up reading Richard II just for kicks–and understanding it. It’s the most unpretentious Shakespeare group you’ll ever be a part of, and so much better than 10th-grade English class (sorry, Mrs. Range).”
