Hey y'all, this is your brother Todd,
For the last 20 years all of us in the Kyana music community have known about the awesome talent that is Doug Florio. I consider him, as many do, the best acoustic guitarist ever. We also know about his motorcycle accident hittin' a deer a few years ago which tore up his back and has forced him to go from 16-20 gigs per month, to none for a long time, and now only 4 per month. His medical and ability to live bills are overwhelming and even if he could get back to a normal gig schedule (which he can't) it would take forever to pay em' off. He's always in constant pain, and I thought it time for us to help.
So, I contacted brother Pete Compton and he helped me book the NIRVANA club on Bardstown Rd. for Sun. Jan. 13 for the «Down for Doug» gig. I will be joined on stage by such Louisville music legends like sister Kimmet Cantwell (From Paris, Kimmet & Doug, Back 2 Mac,..), brothers Chuck Dearing (From Paris, End of Me) Ron Watchmaker (Smash Alley, RockAdelic, formerly Big Rock Show), Villa Mure (who've performed at the Breeder's Cup, Poorcastle, WCHQ events, Great Day LIVE,...and are awesome), Tim Flowers (Soul Circus) and even my son Eric and brother Abe Roque (Florio approved guitarist) REAR will perform, and hopefully even brother Doug himself, along with others you'll know for this event.
It's only $5 to get in the door, but there will be «tip pitchers» set up around the venue as well. The deal is, you pay the five dollar cover (which goes to Doug) but also agree to put something in the «tip pitchers» as well (which also goes to Doug). Why? Because Kimmet and Doug when they ruled the Dutch's club in St Matthews always made good money in the tip pitcher they always kept out front, and this is carrying on that tradition.
Brothers n' sisters, we need your help to help our brother Doug. I haven't done many LIVE gigs around our area the last few years devoting myself to songwriting and doing original music in Nashville, but it's past time I did, and hopefully do some good doin' it!!! So if you ever wanted to see yours truly perform @ a scheduled gig here in town, this is your opportunity.
I've often said our music community and the great folks and venues that support them are the best, and I believe that deep down. Prove me right and join us Jan. 13 helpin' a brother out.
